Flowers have always been the passion of Cathy’s life, starting with walks around the southern California neighborhoods with her grandmother as a tiny child, to learning all the native plants of northern California camping with her parents in all the national parks.  So much so that she received a BS in Landscape Horticulture with a Design concentration from Colorado State University in 1981.

Cathy followed of a career of designing with plants as a professional landscape architect for over 30 years, and during that time did projects for clients ranging from monumental water features and natural stone and engineered retaining walls to patios, pools, spas, and gardens.  Her company continued to maintain the majority of those installations in the Aspen area, and she established enviable service records and seasonal plantings and décor for her clients.  Her gardens were well know throughout Aspen!

She also gained floral experience with some of the best designers in Colorado and when she had the opportunity to purchase Harrington Smith she made the plunge.  Harrington Smith’s impeccable record and established clientele were a key deciding factor, and her first commitment was to carry on those traditions as new owner.

Emmadale Farm is Cathy’s property in Basalt Colorado, where she grows stunning Dahlias, Sunflowers, Phlox, Kale, Scabiosa, and many other annual flowers that go straight into arrangements in the Harrington Smith studio.
